Day 2 race reports of J/22 Worlds

J/22 World Championship - Day 2 race reports of J/22 Worlds
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-(9-10-2002) With squalls surrounding Corpus Christi Bay, and a storm-driven wind out of the northwest at 20 knots, PRO Bob Gough has made the decision to stay ashore until a more stable weather pattern emerges. Best estimates indicate that the squalls will clear in an hour or two and the southeasterly trades will resume.

Winds continue in the 10-12 knot range from the north. Squalls continue to work up the Texas coast, but the pattern appears stable enough to go racing. First gun is scheduled at 1140 CDT. Check www.intellicast.com for local radar loops.

Race 4
In very light air Race 4 was started under the I flag with only one boat OCS. First Windward mark roundings are as follows: 46 Foster, 49 Flynn, 54 Faust, 29 Faget and 35 Elam. First Leward mark roundings are: 49, 29, 46, 54 and 35. With the wind continueing to lighten second Windward mark roundings are: 29, 46, 35, 43 Mahoney, 32 Johnston, 08 Bock. The second Leward mark roundings are: 35, 29, 49, 08, 46, 32, 16 Fisher, 43 and 39 Scott. The first boat finished one hour and thirty-five minutes after the stating gun. The fourth race finishers are: 46, 49, 16, 35, 08, 29, 32, 54, 39, 43, 34 Drahiem, 15 Wulff and 17 Hansen. This is a courtesy being brougt to you by the Race Committee as and is totally unofficial.

Race 5
After an all clear start with the I flag and building winds the first Leward Mark roundings are: 34 Drahiem, 45 Beckmann, 16 Fisher, 46 Foster, 39 Scott. Second Weather Mark roundings are 34, 45, 16, 52 Young, 46 and 39. The second Leward Mark roundings are: 34, 45, 16, 06 Peet, 52. First 10 finishers in Race 5 are: 45, 34, 16, 35 Elam, 46, 10 Doyle, 04 Ainslie, 52, 32 Johnston, 06. The winds have since clocked from 050 to around 070. Race commitee has decided to run the 6th race today. These results are totally unofficial.

Race 6
Race 6 got underway with a heading of 100. Winds remained steady during races 5 and 6. Weather Mark roundings for race 6 are: 60 Fedyszyn, 32 Johnston, 12 Cromwell, 29 Faget, 54 Faust, 43 Mahoney. First Leward Mark roundings are: 60, 32, 54, 29, 10 Doyle and 43. Second Weather Mark roundings are: 54, 32, 29, 16 Fisher, 43, and 60. Second Leward Mark roundings are: 54, 32, 29, 16, 60 and 43. Top 6 finishers to come, please stay tuned.
